Langara College Design Formation program
Design Formation is a 2-year diploma program that provides graduates with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to jumpstart their design career.
Our students love our small class sizes, hands-on projects, and amount of studio time. They also get the chance to learn more about design fields like graphic design, interior design, experiential design, and architecture.
For students who like to get creative
What should I expect from the program?
As a Design Formation student, you’ll begin your education learning the core principles, tools, and technologies used in all design professions. You’ll get lots of studio time and work solo and in groups to complete hands-on projects that help you really get a feel for the creative fields that interest you the most.
Once these foundational courses are complete, you’ll choose elective classes and go deeper into the design specializations of your choice. You’ll be in small classes with the same cohort throughout your program, so you’ll grow your community in class while building your skills and knowledge.
You’ll finish off your program by applying everything you’ve learned in a work experience placement. Whether you work with one of our industry partners or an employer of your choice, you’ll gain real-world experience in an industry you love.
Is this program right for me?
Our student body is a diverse group made up of people of different ages, careers, backgrounds and experiences. They all entered the program with a creative mind, willingness to learn, and collaborative attitude.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.
What happens after graduation?
After 2 years in the program, you’ll graduate with a diploma, industry experience, and professional design portfolio.
You can then choose to continue your education at one of our growing list of available transfer options or apply for your first entry-level job in a creative field.
What now?
If you like what you’ve seen, you should join us for an information session. You’ll learn more about the program and application process, have the opportunity to see the studios, and maybe even create something with us.
